General Meeting Minutes

In attendance:  Sgt. Owen Keaton, Kaleen Snowdon, Jerry Kwas, John Grzebik, Amanda Geraci, Meg Venn, Tom Venn, Maria Gosur

Meeting Minutes Approval 

Jerry Kwas motioned to approve minutes, Kaleen Snowdon seconded, unanimously approved

Community Reporting

  • Karen Bonanno discussed the connection between THC cartridges and vaping illnesses; American Lung Association vaping resource for parents available; information card about the Livonia YMCA available; question to group about high school age resource for potential predator of sexual harassment
  • Meg Venn reported she is striving to bring Narcan training to St. Valentine School in Redford
  • Tom Venn verified information regarding the scheduled Narcan training for Civil Air Patrol, scheduled for Tuesday, 22Oct, for approximately 25 people, discussion regarding if parents of under-18 should be alerted, Karen will draft explanation letter and forward to Tom
  • Amanda Geraci reported positive outcome of Mocktail Homecoming event, 90 students, LSOY new impaired goggles used while students played Mario Cart, poll taken – why do student start consuming alcohol, results:  40% social activity, 32% peer pressure, 14% curious, 7% boredom, 4% like taste; MU residence hall full
  • Report from John Grzebik about LSOY resource table at back-to-school Parent Open House  Clarenceville High School, he will also help at the Clarenceville Homecoming Tailgate
  • Kaleen Snowdon reported regarding Parent Open House at Holmes Middle School: the students present at the event asked the most questions at the LSOY resource table
  • Sgt. Own Keaton, School Resource Officer Livonia Stevenson High School – SRO’s are writing tickets to students for vaping, a $100 fine is possible
  • Maria Gosur updated the group about the next step in the current website design and development

Coalition Update Reviewed

  • LSOY grant increased by approximately $4,200
  • DWMHA name change – Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN)
